Lattice, Synopsys extend multi-year software OEM licensing agreement

By Hrishikesh Kadam

Application scope of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) is expanding due to the emergence of new use cases driven by proliferation of IoT. The latest update from the field-programmable gate space is that American technology developers Lattice Semiconductor Corporation and Synopsys Inc have recently renewed their partnership agreement.

The two companies reportedly disclosed plans to extend their multi-year OEM licensing agreement that enables Lattice to deliver Synopsys’ Synplify® FPGA synthesis tools to customers.

Lattice Radiant™ and Lattice Diamond® FPGA design & verification environments offer high-quality tools to users for quick and easy development of Lattice FPGA-enabled products.

Synopsys Synplify offers broad language support including VHDL 2008 and SystemVerilog, HDL code analysis, and accelerated runtime to complement Lattice Radiant and Lattice Diamond design environments.

Apparently, these combined easy-to-use toolchains are explicitly tailored for Lattice’s FPGA architecture to optimize designs for cost, power, and area and significantly streamline design & implementation of low-power, small footprint Lattice FPGA-enabled products for industrial, communications & computing, automotive, and consumer applications.

Roger Do, Product Marketing Manager at Lattice Semiconductor, commented that extending its partnership agreement with Synopsys guarantees that customers have easy and regular access to best-in-class FPGA synthesis tools in the future.

Synopsis’ Synplify provides a timing-driven approach for FPGA synthesis which complements Lattice’s low-power FPGA-based products. This helps customers minimize the design footprint and maximize power savings of products for applications ranging from industrial to automotive and communications & computing, Do mentioned.

The agreement marks the 20th anniversary of Synopsys’ alliance with Lattice and the organization looks forward to continuing the teamwork to ensure that developers using Lattice’s FPGAs have continuous access to Synopsys’s FPGA synthesis technology, noted Joe Mallett, Senior Marketing Manager of Synopsis Verification Group.

Mallet added that collaborating with Lattice, the leading manufacturer of low power FPGAs, enables the team to offer designers industry-leading synthesis tools and solutions that complement Lattice Radiant and Lattice Diamond tool flows for easy-to-use design optimized for Lattice’s FPGA-enabled products.

Lattice recently announced its plans to attend CEATEC 2019 scheduled to be held on October 15th to 18th, 2019. At the event, the company will supposedly exhibit machine learning, embedded vision, motor control, and platform security reference designs using its low-power FPGAs for use in automotive, industrial, consumer, and computer & communication applications.
