Marriott to bring IoT connected hotels through Carrier Global alliance

Carrier Global Corporation, an HVAC and air conditioning company that provides smart and sustainable building solutions, is reportedly partnering with Marriott Design Lab for developing advanced technologies like IoT-connected hotels to boost guest experiences and optimize building systems for modular construction.

The Senior VP of global design strategies at Marriott International Jeff Voris expressed that the company is thrilled to be collaborating with Carrier, as the hotel chain looks for new ways to enhance its guests’ travel experiences.

Notably, the collaboration will consist of developing efficient hotel construction strategies as well as building new technologies for creating better in-room environments.

The Marriott Design Lab, which spans across a 10,000-square-foot property at the chain’s Bethesda, Maryland HQ, is an R&D hub for developing the latest upgrades to the hospitality industry, ranging from in-room amenities and services to new-age construction.

As per sources, the design lab has undertaken several initiatives over the past years. The most significant one was the IoT Guestroom Lab, a sample room that created ways in which hotel guests could control amenities like the color of the lights to the temperature of the shower with simple voice commands.

The prototype was controlled by systems and apps that remembered a visitor’s behaviors and preferences while being powered by connected networks that switched off automatically when a guest exited the room.

This concept was later launched at Marriott locations in Los Angeles, and Charlotte, North Carolina where Marriott joined forces with Legrand and Samsung on multiple IoT systems to serve guests and optimize hotel operations.

Rajan Goel, Senior VP of the building solutions group at Carrier stated that the company seeks to use its extensive innovation capability to create safer, healthier, sustainable, and highly intelligent solutions for the hotel industry.

Marriott’s collaboration with Carrier will also emphasize streamlining construction activities to drive energy efficiency, reduce costs, and shorten construction times.
