Nokia offers AI as a service to help telcos with 5G network automation

With the proliferation of 5G, IoT, and connected devices, CSP operational teams need to efficiently manage an ever-growing complexity through virtualization, network slicing, new use-cases and service requirements. The need for AI and automation is greater than ever as traditional network and service management approaches are no longer sustainable.

Finnish tech giant Nokia has recently launched the Nokia AVA 5G Cognitive Operations, an AI-as-a-service (AIaaS) offering, combining machine learning, data science, and cloud and telecom expertise.

CSPs can now access the framework and its AI-driven solutions for transforming their network, business operations and services using automation, cloud scalability, and AI. The framework will provide CSPs assurance to meet committed SLAs and deliver insights to help with slice creation.

The Nokia AVA 5G Cognitive Operations solution offers an intelligent provisioning system that could help CSPs identify network resources, explore new revenue opportunities, and identify what SLAs can be committed.

Nokia claims that in the near future, CSPs might also be able to customize slice creation, offering different SLA levels as required by users. The solution anticipates network and service failures with excellent accuracy and precision up to a week in advance. In case of failures, these operations can solve them about 50% faster while accurately assessing their impact on customers and services.

The AIaaS solution is supported by Microsoft Azure, with other private and public options available as well.

The framework provides an intelligent failure localization and fault diagnosis along with dynamic impact analysis. This functionality will allow CSPs to use a proactive data-driven maintenance approach instead of typical incident-based operations.

Nokia’s Cognitive Collaboration Hubs will enable CSPs to operationalize AI-based solutions. In addition, Nokia’s Digital Network Architecture offers a set of common digital tools and proven landscape to enable digitized methods of procedures and ease data collection.

The framework reportedly offers an end-to-end service view accurate real-time impact correlation for better control and visibility. The solution is backed by the company’s extensive portfolio of AI use-cases that can help solve numerous business challenges.

The AIaaS commercial model means a significant reduction in upfront costs, linking payments to usage and outcomes. The solution is already commercially available and expected to be completely available over the next few months
